Henry "Henry" was the son of Theodore Rawson and his wife Elizabeth Bussey. They came to Michigan where she died at age 72; and Theodore died in Rollin Twp., Lenawee Co., MI at age 84 in the household of Gershom B. Bennett. Ten children.

1 RAWSON sibling known: Mary J. Rawson.
__________
"Henry H. Rawson first came to Southern Michigan on a prospecting tour in the fall of 1839, and in his travels he journeyed thirty-three miles without seeing a house. Seven years later, in October 1846, he returned to this section of country, and purchased sixty-two acres of land in Rollin Twp; he pitched his tent, and prepared to cultivate the soil and build up a home. He became the proprietor of eighty acres of land, with a commodious dwelling, and the various barns and outhouses necessary for the successful prosecution of his callling.

"He was a man of more than ordinary intelligence, and capable of discharging the duties of the various local offices. He represented the township on the County Board of Supervisors, officiated in the various school offices, and was Township Clerk thirteen or fourteen years. He and his estimable lady belonged to the Society of Friends. Mrs. Rawson was an active member of the W.C.T.U., but ill health made her abandon this work. Early in life Mr. Rawson was a Whig. He attended the Oak Tree Convention in July 1854 and began to endorse Republican principles.

"Henry Rawson was born in Ontario Co., NY, March 9, 1817. His parents, Theodore and Elizabeth were natives of MA, but spent the last years of their lives in Rollin twp.

"On October 30, 1844, he married Miss Mary J. Cornelius. She was born in Dutchess Co., NY on March 16, 1824, and came with her husband to Michigan in 1846. Seven children were born to the couple, four of whom lived to adulthood.

"Martin I. was born Nov. 8, 1859, and married Miss Sadie Hadley of Hillsdale Co., MI. They had one child, and lived in Rollin Twp.

"Edward M. was born March 11, 1864, and married Miss Celia, daughter of Amos and Elmira B. Cole, and lived with his parents.

"Mr. Rawson had been familiar with farming pursuits all his life, took pride in his agricultural operations, while he gave much time to the embellishment of the homestead, one of the most attractive in the township.

"The farm is still in possession of the family. David Rawson, great-grandson of Henry, along with his wife Sandy are current occupants.

"Henry married probably in NY, on 10/30/1844 Mary J. Cornelius, daughter of William [William Cornelius, William of Dutchess Co., NY possibly went to Ontario Co., NY before moving to Clinton, Lenawee, MI in 1841. Known daughter: Mary J. B-3/16/1824; m. Henry Rawson].

"In 1846, they moved to Rollin Twp., Lenawee Co., MI."
