Alta Faye was a organist and music teachher known to many by her professional name "Alta Faye". Born in Dallas to a pioneering family who came to Texas in the Peter's Colony in 1845, daughter to John Louie and Elsie Bennett England
Alta began playing the piano at the age of 4. After graduating from Vickory High School, she became the staff organist for WRR radio until the late 1940s where she met and became life-long friends with Inez Lackey, later know as "Miss Inez". At WRR Alta Fay was also known as "Miss Interstate" the Interstate Circuit's spokesperson interviewing celebrities who came through Dallas. During the early 1950's she traveled extensively with husband Richard August Schlaudroff, a U.S. Air Force officer where she particapated in numerou musical events. After returning to Dallas in the late 1950's she performed at Luby's Cafeteria, The Press Club of Dallas and for many civic organizations and events including the Gridiron Show, The Dad;s club Variety Show and the VFW. During this same period she taught piano and organ to numerous students. She loved church music, and at the age of 14 began playing at the old City Temple Presbyterian Church and later at the Greenville Avenue Christian Church. For 41 years she was the staff organist for Northminister Presbyterian Church, assuming the duties of Choir Director for much of that time. She was a lifetime member of the American Guild of Organists, the American Federation of Musicians, the Press Club of Dallas and an elder of Northminster Presby. Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, a daughter and a grandson.
