Dr. Walter Albert Sternberg, son of Lambert Sternberg, Jr. and his wife, Rosina Fabian. Dr. Sternberg married Elizabeth Mary Hunter in Detroit in 1902. They had 3 children, Glenn Hunter, Walter Lambert and Thomas Hunter Sternberg.
Dr. Sternberg was a prominent general practitioner and surgeon and was active in his profession for over 50 years, retiring in September 1952. In the 50 years, Dr. Sternberg served in the horseback and horse and buggy era, when country calls meant long hours on the road.
The Mississippi Valley Medical Journal in giving the salute to Dr. Sternberg stated:
Walter Albert Sternber, M.D., Surgeon, was born in Mitchellville, Iowa. Graduated from Mitchellville high School, 1892; student Highland Park Normal College, Des Moines, Iowa, 1892-94; student Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, 1894-96, receiving degree of Ph G.: student, University of Illinois School of Medicine, Chicago, Ill, 1897-1901, receiving degree of M. D.......
He was a 32nd degree mason and very active in the democratic party. The list of medical society for which he served as president or vice-president encompasses state, national and international boards.
