She graduated from State Lab High School. Sonia was a very talented pianist. She loved cooking, especially for her family. Her house was the family gathering place for the holidays and she always made everyone feel welcomed and loved.
Sonia was a loving mother, doting grandmother, and always made sure to put the needs of her family ahead of her own. She cherished her small dogs. Sonia also enjoyed travelling to Florida.
Sonia is survived by her husband, Fred Cunningham; her children, Janet Martin of Terre Haute, Randall Martin of Terre Haute, Douglas Martin of Terre Haute, and Carol (Martin) Doolittle of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Christine (Dickerson) Taylor and her husband Micah of NC, Brian Dickerson and his fiancé Katie McNair of Terre Haute, Jennifer (Martin) Beeler of Indianapolis, Sarah Doolittle of NM, and Steven Doolittle of NM; great-granddaughter, Charlotte Taylor of NC; a sister, Maxine Commons of Indianapolis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Lucille, Marie, Alfred, Ruth, Vera, Coyt, Bob, Delmar, and Ernestine.
Family will receive friends on Monday, February 6 from noon until 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made in Sonia's name to the Terre Haute Humane Society.
