W.C. Moon

Landrum, May 5 -- W.C. (Wes) Moon, 62, of Rt. 2, died Thursday at 7 am at his home. He had been in declining health for six months.

He was born and reared in the Highland section of Greenville County, a son of the late William Henry and Hettie Hughes Moon. He was a deacon and Sunday school superintendent of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. He married the former Miss Mary Gosnell, who died two years ago.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Hettie Belle Pittman, Mrs. Estelle Hammett and Mrs. Annie Bess Stamey, Landrum; four sons, J.T., William and Fred Moon, Landrum, and James O. Moon, Greer; 26 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 3 pm at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church by the Rev. James A. Howard, the Rev. Harrison Chapman and the Rev. Fred Cobb. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be George Pittman, Ed Gosnell, Wade Harrill, Albert Emery, Haskell Turner, Mathias Pittman.

Honorary escort will be Hamp Bates, Crowell Suddeth, W.D. Lindsey, A.S. Hammett, Romaine Phillips, Frank Barnett, Joshua Howard and Dr. Stanley I. Coleman.

The body is at the Wood Mortuary, Greer. After 11 am Friday it will be at the home of William Moon, Landrum, Rt. 2.
