J. A. J. Wheeler Dead
Died Suddenly of Heart Failure at Daughter's Home on South Kentucky Street.
J. A. J. Wheeler, 74 years old, Confederate veteran, and for fourteen years a resident of Collin county, dropped dead from heart failure at 4 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mr. J. Hines, 322 South Kentucky street. He had apparently been in good health as he attended to his duties as night watchman at Matthews' gin regularly each night, so his death was a great shock to his family. He was an honest and upright man, a consistent member of the Methodist church, and leaves a large family and many friends to mourn his loss.
He was born in Souther Arkansas, and served throughout the Civil War in the Second Arkansas Regiment. He moved to Collin county fourteen years ago, taking up his abode south of McKinney, near Parker. He and his wife moved to town about four months ago to the home of their daughter, Mrs. Hines, where they resided ever since. The deceased is surved by a wife and nine children, Mrs. J. Hines, Mrs Kate McDonald, Mrs. Maude Campbell and Frank Wheeler, all of McKinney; John Wheeler and Mrs. Dora Shafton of Sulphur, OK; Andrew Wheeler of Munday, Texas, Mrs. Mattie Stewart of near Van Alstyne, and Mrs. Belle Carter of Washington County, Ark.
The deceased also leaves a brother, Ab Wheeler of Washington County, Ark., who arrived here today to attend the funeral.
