Funeral for Russell "Pete" Holcomb, 95, of Holly Pond will be today, February 15, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Duck River Baptist Church with Bro. Sherman Bailey and Bro. Johnny Sims officiating and Holly Pond Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Morgan County. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Holcomb died Monday, February 13, 2012. He was a World War II Army veteran and received two Purple Hearts, one Bronze Star and other commendations for his service to his country. He was a farmer and a member of Duck River Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Columbus Dillard Holcomb and Eller Durham Holcomb; his wife, Opal Sivils Holcomb; grandson, Brian Russell Creel; three brothers, Melvin, Elvin and Earnest Holcomb; and sister, Lessie Grant.

Survivors include three sons, Alfred (Sarah) Holcomb, Charles (Deborah) Holcomb and Douglas (Becky) Holcomb; one daughter, Louise Clark; seven grandchildren, Teresa Anders, Cynthia Black, Deletha Hardin, Paula Reed, Sonia Shelton, Cecilia Vance and Mark Creel; one sister, Lucy Jenkins; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Charles Holcomb, Mark Creel, Sam Black, Jeff Anders, Shawn Whittle and Kim Martin James.
