1850 - Edwin was one of eight children at the home of Benjamin A. and Nancy Gates. His father was a chairmaker.

1855 - The father died in 1854. Edwin was one of seven children at the home of his widowed mother. Brother, Francis, 20, was a farmer.

1860 - Six children left at the Gates home. Francis and Edwin were farmers. Newell and Hiram were painters.

1865 - Three children left at home. Edwin was a laborer. Eliza was a tailoress.

1870 - Some shuffling around. Francis, laborer, and Newell, chairmaker, were back home. Edwin was a teamster. Helen was seating chairs.

1880 - Under Widow Nancy Gates' roof: Newell, chair painter; Helen and her husband George Billings, chair shop worker and their son, Edward; Edwin, teamster, and his wife Katie and her mother, Mariah Gibbs.

1900 - Mr. Edwin and his wife Kate were renting a place at 94 Green St. He was a teamster. The couple never had children.

1910 - Same address. This census stated he worked as a teamster for the town.

Passed away at home at 94 Green Street.
