MARTIN AUGUSTUS ALLEN.

Mr. Allen whose death we noticed last week, was born in the town of Hoosick, N.Y., in 1809, and when eleven years of age moved to this town with his parents. From this time he was a life long resident of the town of Sandy Creek. For some thirty-five years he resided on a farm in the western part of the town, and during the past fifteen years in the village. He was a successful farmer and a good citizen, quiet in manner, never holding public office of any kind; but commanding the esteem and respect of all who came in contact with him.

In early life he was united in marriage with Miss Augusta Greenwood of Richland, by whom he had two sons, the late Byron E. Allen and Mr. John R. Allen of this town. He was thrice married, his second wife being Miss Louisa Harris of Sandy Creek, by whom he had one daughter, Augusta, now deceased, who was the wife of Mr. W.H. Soule. His third marriage was to a sister of his second wife, Miss Jennett Harris, who died in this village some four years since.

Mr Allen has since resided with his son at whose home he died last Tuesday. The funeral was held a week ago from the residence of Mr. John R Allen, Rev. J. Sanford officiating.

So one by one those who have been busy, active men in the past are slipping away and another familiar form will not again be seen upon our streets.
