George Foco Ukena was the youngest son of Johann Ukena and Gesche Westendorp born in the small town of Velde in the District of Leer in present day Germany. He left Germany with his brother Gerhardt Friederich Ukena and immigrated to the United States to live with his older brothers who already resided in Madison County, Illinois sometime around 1867-1868.

When he was 20, he married Mary Elisabeth Henneke in Staunton, Macoupin County, Illinois. Shortly after his mother's death in 1876, he and Mary, along with son John Heinrich Ukena moved to Pretty Prairie, Reno County, Kansas.

They would have 8 children, William David (1877-1941), Charles G. Ukena (1880-1881), Frank Samuel (1881-1967), George Washington (1884-1948), Mary Martha (1887-1968), Henry Harrison (1890-1980), Edward Raymond (1893-1978), and Ellen Elizabeth (1896-1967).

George's primary occupation was of being a farmer. He is buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ninnescah township, Reno County, Kansas.
