Patrick Wickens, son of Patrick & Bridget (Connor) Wickens, was born near the village of Carnauch, County Wexford, Ireland. Patrick along with his father and younger brothers and sisters came to America in 1853. Patrick now 18 hustled out and got a job as a roust-about on the lake boats while his father took the younger children and met up with his sisters Kate & Margaret and brother John in southern Indiana. Later Patrick worked on the railroads and rose to be road master of the Louisville branch of the B&O, SW Railroad between North Vernon and Jeffersonville, Indiana. On October 4, 1864 he married Hannah Devine, a pioneer school teacher. In 1868 Patrick bought a farm near North Vernon, Indiana and took up farming which he followed successively until the time of his death. To this union 10 children were born. Patrick died June 21, 1913 and is laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery in North Vernon, Indiana.
