Martha, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J. Hove, was born November 6 1845 in Vik I Sogn Norway. She was baptized and confirmed in the Hove Church in Vik. In November 1866 she was married to Jacob L. Wulff who lived in the same community as she did. Six children were born to them in Vik; Ole of Mondovi; Martha of Whitehall; Mrs. Anna Lee of Menominee; Andrew of Mondovi and two who died in infancy. Mrs. Wulff's father, whose wife had died immigrated to the United States and had homesteaded in the town of Dover. In 1875 Mr. and Mrs. Wulff and children also emigrated and on June 5 of that year arrived at her father's home in Dover and lived there for twenty six years. There the following children were born to them; Severen, deceased; Olene, Mrs. Carl Johnson of Gilmanton; Joseph of Mondovi;; Sarah Mrs. Hans Johnson of Mondovi; Ida Mrs. O.F. Olson of Belfield North Dakota; Severen of Mondovi; Lena Josephine, Mary Jane And Tilda deceased and Johanna of Mondovi. On October 6 1896 Mrs. Wulff's husband died and on February 18 1901 she moved with her children to Mondovi. On February 24 1902 she married Nels Silverness a widower with three small boys, Emil, Alvin and Joseph whom she tenderly and faithfully mothered and for whose education she was especially solicitous. On February 24 1915 Mr. Silverness passed away. Since her husband's death Mrs. Silverness has had the constant companionship of her daughter Johanna who devoted herself to the care of her mother. She was cheered by visits of many relatives who lived near her, by the visits of many friends, and by the visits of her pastor, Rev. E.A. Norson. She led a busy and useful life and many have memorials of her handiwork and the products of her loom. Mrs. Silverness led a happy life because she was a true Christian, squaring practice with profession. She never failed in her religious observances and helped to her uttermost the church she loved.
