Singer. Called "The Hat Diva", she was one of her country's most popular vocalists over her last 40 years while recording roughly 80 albums. Born Lin Qui Luan, little is known of her early years save that she came to prominence by winning a radio singing contest at 15 and was soon touring throughout Taiwan. Feng produced her initial album which was entitled "Wishing You Well" in 1971, took her stage name which translates to 'Flying Phoenix' from her character in the 1972 television series "Pair of Flying Swallows", then in 1974 made her first international visit when she appeared in Singapore. While she continued to be seen in occasional small screen productions she was best known for her sold-out concerts in Taiwan and on the Chinese mainland during which she would wear one of her trademark 400 hats while performing both Mandarin pop and Taiwanese folk songs, always called upon for such hits as "Dream Persuer", "Cold Rain", "I'm a Cloud", "When I Hear Your Applause", and "Chasing Dreams". Feng became associated with Taiwanese patriotic music and often performed on National Day while also traveling in support of her nation's sports teams. During the 1980s she voiced the soundtracks of several romance movies and in 1992 had a major success with a 'greatest hits' disc titled "Wishing to Play the Same Tune". Feng last sang in public at an October 2010 Singapore event then in May of 2011 was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. At her death many of her records remained in print.
