Frank Marcelli Sr. joined our Lord Jesus in his Heavenly home on February 11, 2012. Frank was 82 years old.
Frank was born in the coal mining town of Dawson, NM on October 25, 1929 to Mariano and Laura Nizzi-Marcelli. Frank was one of ten children, all precede him in passing except his sister, Rose Maddaleni of Raton, NM.
Frank married Ernestine Felix Marcelli in 1953, and they had eight children. Two daughters preceded Frank in death, Julie in 1971 and Teresa in 2008.
Frank is survived by his wife, Ernestine and children, Rosemarie Nelson, Mariana Marcelli, Tina Marcelli, Frank and Kathy Marcelli, John and Melissa Marcelli and Stephanie and Armand Giannini and grandchildren, Michael Marcelli, Jared and Lynn Marcelli, and Alexandria Nelson, Antonio Archuleta and Rico Bustos, Madeline Diehl, Jonathan and Christopher Sánchez, Vincent, Matthew and Kristy Marcelli, Nikki, Christian, and Jack Marcelli, and Julie, Lauren and Armand Giannini.
His children and grandchildren brought him much joy.
Frank is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Frank graduated from Dawson High School in 1950 where he was class president and a football player. Frank was in the United States Army for three years during the Korean Conflict. Frank was employed for many years in the soft drink bottling industry as a production manager.
After retiring from full-time work, he worked part-time as a crossing guard at Cochiti Elementary and St. Therese Catholic School. Frank loved football and having been stationed in Pennsylvania, was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Frank also coached YAFL.
Frank also loved gardening, camping and fishing. Frank attended the Dawson reunions every two years where he enjoyed those visits with old friends, classmates and relatives.
A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd. NW, Albuquerque. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith NE. Pallbearers will be Frank's grandsons. Honorary Pallbearer will be friend, Sam Rivera.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Frank Marcelli's memory to Vista Care Hospice at 601 Dr. Martin Luther King NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102-3619 or to the American Cancer Society at 10501 Montgomery Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111.
