Neal A. Thompson
Mr. Neal Arnold Thompson, 77, of Highway 66, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2007 at Loris Community Hospital following an illness.
Mr. Thompson was born September 21, 1929 in Flint, Michigan, a son of the late Horace Thompson and the late Velma Hunt Thompson Free.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps for five years, taking part in the Berlin Air Lift. He retired from the U.S. Army after 21 years, serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
Mr. Thompson was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Harmon Thompson.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Orilla Branton Thompson of the home; two sons, Callie Thompson and his wife, Jackie, of Locust Grove, Va. and Timothy Neal Thompson and his wife, Grace, of Lexington, S.C.; one daughter, Margaret Carolyn Knetzger and her husband, Richard, of West Allis, Wis.; his stepmother, Helen P. Thompson McGuire of Lincoln, Mich.; one brother, Ernie Thompson of Youngstown, Ohio; one sister, Joann Clark of Mich.; five grandchildren, Laura, Christopher, Philip, Nick and Caleb; nine step grandchildren; and eight step great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 30, 2007 from 3 to 4 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Loris.
Funeral services will follow the visitation at 4 p.m. Tuesday from the Ward Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Thompson officiating.
Committal services with full military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2007 from the Ridgecrest Memorial Park in Batesburg-Leesville, S.C.
