Mrs. Rachel Batson Is Taken by Death at Home Thursday
Mrs. Rachel Batson, 82, died at 1 o'clock, Thursday afternoon at her home onEast Lincoln avenue, where she had lived since 1884. Previous to that time shelived on Washington street, and also for a time on Jones street having many friends in all parts of the city. Born in Ohio, she came to Michigan when four years of age, and settled 12 miles north of Grand Rapids with her parents Mr. and Mrs. William Wortenbacher Baker.
She is survived by a daughter Margaret, who for the past three years has taken care of her mother, and by four sons; also by a sister in Oregon.
Mrs. Batson had been a sufferer for over six years from a complication of diseases, and suffered a stroke of apoplexy a week ago. Her daughter Margaret had the entire care of her mother throughout her illness.
Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery upon the arrival in Ionia of her son Charles. There will be no funeral, and friends have been requested not to call or send flowers.
