Businessman, Art Patron. The son of French immigrants, he amassed wealth as a textile manufacturer and through shrewd investments in banking and railroad concerns. His love of music and his desire to advance music as an art was behind much of his philanthropy in his later years. One of his most enduring endowments lead to the founding of the now renown Julliard School, a performing arts conservatory in New York City, New York.
