Marshal Dexter Briggs is the son of Marshal and Susan Howard (Pierce) Briggs. Marshal first married Emeline Crane Macomber on May 1, 1859, and they had five children: Marshal Crane, Francis Sumner, Albert Louis, William Francis, and Louisa Adelaide Briggs. After Emeline's death, Marshal then married Mary Matilda (Bliss) Richmond, widow of Reuben Alexander Richmond, on February 6, 1868, and they had two sons, Fred Dexter and Frank Richmond Briggs.
