The first Moore family to settle in Pleasant Hill was that of William Moore who came to this village in 1861 and was one of the early blacksmiths and wagon makers in the community. He was born in Kentucky in 1814 later moving to Lincoln county, Missouri. The trip to Pleasant Hill was by boat. The family got on the ferryboat at Clarksville and because of high water were able to land near the bluff road about 3 blocks west from the main street corner in lower town.
