Actor. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in the 1972 motion picture "Sounder", and was nominated for an Emmy Award for his work in the television miniseries "King" (1978) and "Roots: The Next Generation." He won an Emmy in 1992 for his guest role as a judge in a racially charged pair of episodes of the television drama "Picket Fences." He gained recognition in 1968 playing the boyfriend of Diahann Carroll in her situation comedy "Julia." Other roles include 'The Mirror' on the television series "The Charmings" and 'Capt. Clark Terrell' in the motion picture "Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan."
