Sgt Penny was a right waist gunner on B24 Liberator #42-73416. The plane had participated in a bombing mission of a factory in Weiner Neustadt, Austria. The plane was hit enemy fighters while in formation and lost power. Sgt Penny had been wounded in the leg or foot and lost a lot of blood. It is believed that he was blown out of the plane when it exploded and died during his parachute descent. 4 crew members were killed and 8 were captured.
