William was born to Philip and Louisa Dollmeyer (Parkersburg Memorial Gardens) in 1872. An amiable, cheerful kind of man, he met his wife Evelyn Solley in the late 1890's. Married in Dec. 1901 in Parkersburg, they had three children, Margaret, John and Lois. After Evelyn and Margaret's deaths in 1920, William brought the surviving members of his family back to Parkersburg from Neodesha Kansas. Of a time when the care of a child would best be taken by a woman, William gave little Lois to his sister-in-law Edna Beaty in Mannington West Virginia. William was an entrepeneur and owned two businesses in Parkersburg in the early 20th century, Dollmeyers! and 'Dollmeyer and Biddle', a dry goods emporium. William was also very involved in civic organizations and was a member of the Elks and was a Mason. For years in the 1920's and 30's, William played Santa Claus at the Dils Brothers Department store in downtown Parkersburg. He remarried at some point to a Jessie Stone and died of a heart attack at 76. A kindly, sweet man he was affectionately known as Dolly.
