Doris was the only child of Louis F. Cunningham and Mary "Maude" Parks. Her mother died shortly after her birth and her father was murdered just 2 years later. Her aunt Mary Cunningham Cavanaugh became her guardian, but was also taken from Doris before her time when Doris was just 9 years old. Her cousin Joseph Bernard Cunningham became her guardian and gave her away at her wedding to George Nauman Shuster on the 25 of July 1924.

She and George only had one son Robert G. born 1925 in New York while George was the Professor of English at St. Joseph's College for Women.

Doris C. Schuster, former member of the Stamford (Conn.) Board of Education and former president of the Stamford Council of Catholic Women, died Sunday at St. Joseph's Medical Center in South Bend, Ind.

She was 84 years old and lived in South Bend.

Mrs. Schuster, a former president of the Association of Neighbors and Friends of Hunter College, was the widow of Dr. George N. Schuster, president of Hunter from 1940 to 1960. He died in 1977.

Mrs. Schuster was born in Loogootee, Ind., and was a graduate of St. Mary's College, Notre Dame, Ind.

She is survived by a son, Robert G., of Manhattan.
