My fur baby, better known to us as "baby dog". I breed and raise registered Rotties. They have gotten a bad reputation over the years because of their size and temperament. It's all in the way you raise them. I have six grand children and he thought it was his job to protect them, even if he was protecting them from their parents. :) They would have to take the children home to discipline them because he wouldn't let them do it here. One day I heard one of my grandson's, about 2 yrs old, hollering, Nana, Max won't let me go. I looked out the drive and there was Max with his diaper in his mouth and he was pulling him away from the gate. My grandson was trying to go out the gate and Max wouldn't let him. He knew that child wasn't allowed out there! He would protect in an instant, but he was gentle as a lamb with the kids.

Rotties are the most loyal and sweetest of dogs. They pick you to love and when they love you, you know it. They generally deeply love one person and I was the person that Max loved. He was my shadow. Wherever I was he was also there. I got terribly sick a few years back and he would sit by my bed and lay his big head by me and look at me with all the love he had shining in his eyes. It was as if he was letting me know that he understood and he was there for me.

Rotties don't have a long life as a general rule. Max lived to be almost 10 and when the end came he died from heart disease like so many of them do. He was so much a part of our family. When he left us the loss was so painful, like losing a member of our family which he was. He is missed so very much and there will never be another like him.

Love you and miss you "baby dog"...
