Helen Eileen Benz (nee Kallichis), 84, of Lavallette, NJ, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2012 at home after a short battle with cancer.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, she lived in New Rochelle, NY for many years before moving to Lavallette, NJ in 1984.
Helen was owner of Benz Travel, including the Greyhound Bus Terminal in New Rochelle, NY for 20 years.
Mrs. Benz was an active parishioner of the Parish of St. Pio, Lavallette, NJ, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Choir Member. She also was a member and past President of the church's Rosary Altar Society and was involved in many other social and charitable activities. Helen also served as Treasurer of the Deborah Heart and Lung Chapter.
She was predeceased by her grandson, Christian and her son-in-law, Mitchell Berke.
Surviving are her husband of 63 years, John Conrad Benz; her 5 children and their spouses, Richard & Grace Benz of Memphis, TN; Nancy Berke of Lavallette, NJ; Thomas & Eileen Benz of New Rochelle, NY; John & Karen Benz of Trumbull, CT; and James & Joyce Benz of Kenilworth, NJ; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Sunday 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 706 Grand Central Ave., Lavallette, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday 10:00am at the Parish of St. Pio, Lavallette, NJ. Entombment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River, NJ.
