Everett A. Benson died Friday at Roseville Hospital. He was 76. Mr. Benson was born in Puxico, Mo., and had resided in Citrus Heights since 1956.

He retired in 1974 after more than 38 years as a locomotive engineer for the Southern Pacific Railroad Co. Mr. Benson was a member of Granite Division #415 Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He was also a past president of the Citrus Heights Community Club and a member of the Citrus Heights Senior Citizens Club and the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railroad Employees.

Friends may call at Cochrane's Chapel of the Roses, 103 Lincoln St. in Roseville from noon until 8 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Citrus Heights, 7405 Mariposa Ave., with the Rev. Roland Shanks and the representatives of Granite Division #415 officiating. Burial will be in Sylvan Cemetery.
Mr. Benson is survived by his wife, Sylvia Benson of Citrus Heights; three daughters, Wanda L. Lynch of Sacramento, Wilma J. Benson of Vacaville, and Carolyn C. Winters of Woodland; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, James E. Benson.
