He went by the name, Jimmy. He was 2nd child of 10 of John & Mary (Boeck) Franks.

Jim quit school after the 4th grade to work with his father to help support his family. He joined the U.S. Navy on Aug. 30, 1942, and was honorably discharged on Dec. 5, 1945. He had earned the rank of Aviation Ordnanceman First Class.

Jim met Eleanor Trampus at a dance in Waitts Lake, WA and on Oct. 15, 1945, they were married. They lived in Jump Off, and Valley, WA where they started their family of five children.

Jim worked various jobs including a truck driver but mostly sawmills. In 1964 he went to work at Post Falls Lumber Co. until retirement from Louisiana-Pacific in 1987. After retirement Jim enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, canning his own fruits and vegetables. He especially enjoyed baking his famous zucchini bread which he shared with all. He enjoyed spending time with his family and dear friends.
