Bill traveled back and forth with his mule from NC to MO. He bought a ranch in MO then sold it in 1920 when he came back to NC. He arrived home with $50,000.00 which his sister-in-law kept hidden for him under her mattress. His property in 1920 was not worth $50,000.
When he got sick a lady from MO came to take care of him for a while, then she returned to MO. Shortly before he died, Bill told someone not to look for the money, that it was gone. Whether the lady took the money with her back to MO or someone else got the money remains a mystery.

Funeral services for Mr William Marlow, 64 year old citizen of the Lutz section were held at St Peters Lutheran church Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock with the pastor conducting. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mr Marlowe died Friday morning about 1 o'clock following a heart attack.
The deceased is survived by three sisters and one brother.
