EDDINGTON – Vernon A. Babcock Sr., 83, husband of the late Clarice E. (Beatham) Babcock, died July 25, 2007, at his home. He was born June 10, 1924, in Bangor, the son of Edgerton T. and Beulah M. (Chandler) Babcock. Vernon was a graduate of Bangor High School and served in the U.S. Army with the 11th Medical Depot Company, during World War II in the European theatre. He was employed for many years as an optician, working with American Optical, Bangor, and later owned and operated Twin City Optician. Vernon was a 32- year member of the American Legion, Post No. 84, Orono, where he was the financial officer and past commander. He was also a member of the VFW in both Orono and Brewer. He enjoyed drawing, especially as a cartoonist and created the Play Life Safe game. Surviving are three sons, Larry Babcock and his wife, Sharon, of Bangor, Terry Babcock and his wife, Valerie, of Eddington and Vernon Babcock Jr. of Eddington; four grandchildren, Kimberly and Rebecca, both of Bangor and Dana and Amanda, both of Eddington. He was predeceased by his wife, in 1988; two sisters, Jean Lake and Patricia White; and one brother, James Babcock. Family and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Dr. Tracy Reeves, pastor of North Brewer-Eddington United Methodist Church, presiding. Burial will be at Pine Tree Cemetery, Eddington.
