In 1880 she lived with her parents and eight siblings on a farm in Jackson Township, Muskingum County, OH. Her father and two oldest brothers worked as iron miners.

In 1900 she and her husband and their four children lived on a farm they owned, mortgage free, in the same township.

In 1910 she and her three youngest children lived there.

In 1920 she and three of her children--Lizzie, Gilbert, and Norman--lived there. Lizzie worked as a housekeeper for a private family and Gilbert worked as a stationary engineer in an oil field.

In 1930 she and her son Norman lived in a house they were renting for $25 a month at 704 Webster Street in Zanesville, OH. They did not have a radio. He worked as a public school teacher.

In 1940 she and her son Norman and her mother's sister Rose Settles lived in a house they owned at 1103 Maysville Avenue in Zanesville. Their home was valued at $4000. Norman worked as a teacher at Lash High School, with an income in 1939 of $2400 for 40 weeks of work.
