Mrs. Bowman was born in Surry County on August 15, 1921, to Jake Benton and Mecie Goins Johnson.
She was retired from United Elastic and was a member of Bannertown Baptist Church.
Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Billy Jarrell; Carol and Davis Jessup; sons and a daughter-in-law, James "Buck" and Imogene Bowman all of Mount Airy, and Dwight Bowman of Westfield, eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Iva Dean Johnson and a special niece, Gaye Goins.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bowman was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Bowman and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Bannertown Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Mickey Cogdill. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens conducted by Rev. Chris Benfield. The family will receive friends Wednesday beginning at 11:00 AM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bannertown Baptist Church Building Fund, 1834 Westfield Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to the Central Continuing Care Activity Fund, 1287 Newsome St, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
