Sarah Hurlburd, "of Orwell Village", first married Martin Post in about 1803 and they had three sons: Martin Mercillian Post, Aurelian Hurlburd Post and Truman Marcellus Post.

After Martin Post Sr passed away in 1811, Sarah and her sons lived for a time with her father, Ebenezer Hurlburd near Orwell. It was there that she met and in 1814 married her second husband, Captain Augustus Hand, and had another three children: Augustus T Hand, Oliver Hand and Sarah Jane Hand.

She died December 2, 1839 in Ferrisburg Vt
