A graveside service and interment for Charley Charles Spangler, 95, will be conducted at 10:30 A.M., Friday, April 17, 2009, in the Wheatland Cemetery with Pastor Andy Gudahl officiating and military rites accorded by Ora Call American Legion Post #10 and Laramie Peak Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3558.
He died Sunday April 12, 2009, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming.
Charley was born December 4, 1913, in Follett, Texas, the son of Floyd Wilburn and Fannie Marie (Bateman) Spangler. He was reared and educated in Havensville, Kansas and came to Wyoming with his grandparents. Charley married Irene Wilhelm in Wheatland on November 21, 1945. He served during World War ll in the United States Army. He worked as a mechanic for marker's Inc. in 1980; for Platte County Weed and Pest for two summers; and Wheatland city Hall as a janitor until 2002. He liked to "putter". Charley was a member of Laramie Peak Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3558; enjoyed gardening, fishing, and pheasant hunting. With his gardening, he raised vegetables and flowers, entering various specimens in the County Fair where he won prizes.
Survivors include a daughter, Jo (Steve) Atkinson; sister, Genevieve Greenlee of Crockett, Texas; step-sister, Ivie Dell Martin and step-brother, Eslie Ray "Spike" Spangler both of Topeka, Kansas; three granddaughters, Kristi Haley of Munson, Massachusetts, Brenda Seckman of Powell, Wyoming, and Stephanie Jensen of Casper, Wyoming; and ten great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irene on January 26, 2006; a brother; a sister; and a step-brother.
Memorials to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
