VERNON BOLTON SR
Vernon Bolton, Sr., 76, native of England who had been an esteemed resident of Bennington for more than 50 years, died at Putnam Memorial Hospital Saturday night following a long period of frail health.
He was born at Ilkley, England, Feb 9, 1880 and came to this country when he was 16 years old. An employee at the former Holden Leonard plant, he had been with Old Bennington Weavers until he retired several years ago.
Fond of sports, he had especially enjoyed fishing. His gardening abilities were well known and he always had an excellent garden.
Survivors are his wife, the former Isabelle Jackson whom he married at Second Congregational Church; one daughter, Mrs. Warren (Leona) Campbell, Pownal Center; two sons, Vernon Bolton Jr. Bridgeport, Conn.; Bernard J. Bolton, Bennington; one sister, Mrs. Margaret Jackson, Schaghticoke; two brothers, George Bolton and Harry Bolton both of Schaghticoke; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; also nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held from Mahar Funeral Home Tuesday at 2 pm, The Rev. Canon Norman B. Godfrey of St. Peter's Epsicopal Church will officiate. Entombment will be at Park Lawn Vault.
