Reinder Groen (= Green) was born in October 1882 in the dairy farmers village of Oldetrijne, in the southern part of the Dutch province Friesland, the last of seven children and the fifth son of Johannes Alberts Groen and Aukjen Jochems Bruinewoud.

In April 1893 Reinder Groen emigrated with his parents and siblings from the Netherlands, province Friesland, to the Platte area in the southeastern part of South Dakota, not far away from the River Missouri. They arrived on 7 April 1893 on the SS Veendam at the port of New York, Castle Garden.

In June 1900 Reinder Groen (17 y, born in October 1883 in the Netherlands, immigrated in 1893, farm laborer), his father Johannes Groen (61, September 1839, Netherlands, farmer), his mother Hankje (58, March 1842, Netherlands, mother of 7 living children), his brothers Jochem (24, June 1876, Netherlands, farm laborer) and Feike (20, March 1880, Netherlands farm laborer) were living at a rented farm in Signal Township, Charles Mix County, South Dakota.

Render Groen married on 31 March 1909 to the three years younger Jennie Beltman. They lived on a farm two miles south of Joubert, and later on in the Dutch agrarian settlement of New Holland, both places located in Douglas County, SOuth Dakota.

On 12 September 1918 the 35 years aged farmer Reinder Groen was living with his wife Jennie in Harrison, Douglas County, South Dakota, when he was administrated on a WW I Draft Registration Card. He was of medium height and build, had blue eyes, brown hair and a lame in one leg.

In 1920 Reindert Groen (37, Holland) and his wife Jennie (33, South Dakota) were living in Clark Township, Douglas County, South Dakota.

On 15 April 1921 the 38 years aged Reinder Groen was naturalized by a court in Armour, the seat of Douglas County, South Dakota. He was living then with his wife Jennie (33 y) in Harrison, also a Dutch agrarian settlement, a few miles east of New Holland. Reinder's height was 5 feet 6 inches and he had blue eyes and brown hair.

One daughter was born to them, in 1925, Johanna Groen, who married to Arie Paul Van Zee.

In 1930 Reinder Groen (47), his wife Jennie (44), their daughter Johanna (4, South Dakota) and Jennie's father Albert Beltman (75, Netherlands) were living in Joubert, Douglas County, South Dakota.

In 1935 Reinder Groen (52) and his wife Beltman were still living in Joubert, Douglas County, South Dakota.

Reinder was assessor of the Joubert Township and secretary-treasurer of the Joubert Telephone Company.

In April 1940 Reinder Groen (57, no occupation), his wife Jennie (53) and their daughter Johanna (14, new worker on a farm) were living at an own farm, worth $1000, in New Holland, Joubert Township, Douglas County, South Dakota.

His wife Jennie died in June 1943 at the age of 56 years in New Holland, Douglas County, South Dakota. Widower Reinder Groen died in October 1956 at the age of almost 74 years in Platte, Charles Mix County, South Dakota.
