Mrs. Bessie Lee, 56, a native of Richland County and wife of Edwin Lee of Newton, passed away early Tuesday morning at her home in Newton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Flagg Funeral Home at Newton with Brother John Steward in charge. Burial will be at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, west of Newton. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Thursday. The casket will be closed prior to the funeral.

Mrs. Lee was born May 6, 1911 near Calhoun, daughter of the late Harvey M. and Marcia Berry. Her mother passed away two weeks ago.

She was married to Edwin Lee on July 31, 1935 and had resided in Newton since that time.

She was a member of the Church of Christ in Olney and the American Legion Auxiliary and Eastern Star at Newton.

She is survived by her husband, Edwin; a son, Edwin B. Lee of Springfield; and a daughter, Mrs. John (Marcele) Lee of Newton. Three brothers, Lyle Berry of Olney and Wayne Berry of Claremont and Keith Berry of Hapsville, Georgia; and three sisters, Mrs. Vera Bateman of Kingsford Height, Ind., Mrs. Fern Gatzke of La Porte, Ind., and Mrs. Hazel Beck of Moweaqua, also survive.
