LT. HARRY R. STENGLE
Memorial services for First Lieutenant Harry R. Stengle, son of Mrs. George A. Blackmore of Perrysville, Pa., will be conducted by the Rev. Harry W. Pedicord of the Hiland Presbyterian Church and Perry Highway Post 161, American Legion, on Saturday morning at the Smithfield Cemetery, East End.
Friends will be received at the H.P. Brandt Funeral Home, Perry Highway, Perrysville, from 7 to 10 p.m. tomorrow.
Lt. Stengle was born in Wilkinsburg. He attended Perry High School and Mt. Hermon School for Boys, Mt. Hermon, Mass. While a student at Penn State he enlisted in the Army Air Forces in September, 1941. After training at Sikeston, Mo., and Enid, Okla., Lt. Stengle was commissioned a second lieutenant at Moore Field, Texas, April 28, 1942, at which time he also received his wings.
Lt. Stengle was assigned to a fighter command after further training. While stationed in Iceland he was awarded the Silver Star for meritorious conduct in shooting down a German reconnaissance plane and was promoted to first lieutenant.
Lt. Stengle was reported killed in action in the European area on Oct. 18, 1943.
In addition to his mother, Lt. Stengle is survived by his stepfather, George A. Blackmore, chairman of the board and chief executive of the Westinghouse Air Brake Co. and of the Union Switch and Signal Co., and two brothers, William B. Stengle of Tucson, Ariz., and Dr. James M. Stengle, Evanston Hospital, Evanston, Ill.
