Peter Dane was the son of Thomas Dane and Elizabeth Frances Locke.

In 1860 Peter was living with his parents and siblings in Appleton. He was a clerk. Their residence was near the George Spaulding residence.

Peter served in 21st Wisconsin Infantry.

He married Cornelia Spaulding on 31 May 1866. Peter was a clothing merchant.

The children of Cornelia Spaulding and Peter Eugene Dane were:
1. Georgianna Spalding Dane
2. Frances Dane
3. Effie Dane
