Darcy Huffer, 85, Carmi, passed away at 2:50 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, Ind.

She was born Oct. 18, 1924 in Hawthorne Township, the daughter of Arthur H. and Inez (Savage) Ackerman. She married E. Harry Vaught Aug. 8, 1945, and he preceded her in death Jan. 4, 1971. She then married Elwood "Woody" Huffer in 1974.

Darcy was a 1940 graduate of Carmi Township High School and a 1944 graduate of Southern Illinois University. She taught business and English at Mills-Prairie, Crossville and Carmi Township High Schools.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Elwood "Woody" Huffer of Carmi; two daughters and a son-in-law, Donna and Terry Lutes, and Dixie Vaught, all of Springfield; one son, David Vaught of Naperville; a stepdaughter and her husband, Cindy and Gene Frymire of Henderson, Ky.; a stepson and his wife, Phillip and Kay Huffer of Enfield; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Dixie Ackerman of Carmi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Inez "Inie" Ackerman; her first husband, E. Harry Vaught Jr.; and her brother, Frank Hall Ackerman.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Carmi, the Rev. Luke Raczykowski officiating. Burial will be in Burnt Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 9 p.m. Monday at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
