"At the residence of her husband in the first ward, at 1:50 p.m. today of puerperal fever, Mrs. Emma Hollingsworth Broaddus, 41 years, wife of Judge E. J. Broaddus and niece and adopted daughter of Mrs. General W. Y. Slack.
The death of this estimable Christian lady has cast a gloom over the city, and the bereaved husband and family have the sympathy of the entire community in their affliction.
The deceased leaves six children, all of tender years, a devoted husband, and a large circle of friends to mourn her loss. Mrs. Broaddus was born in Monroe County, Missouri and was a granddaughter of Dr. G. M. Bower, deceased, a member of congress from that district. Arrangements for the funeral have not yet been determined." Chillicothe Morning Constitution, October 7, 1890
