CHILD DIES AFTER BEING HIT BY CAR

DARTS IN FRONT OF AUTO WHILE PLAYING BY ROAD

Gary James Herman, 3 ½, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Herman, Rt. 1, Box 196, was fatally injured when he ran in front of an automobile driven by Mrs. Martha Frieda Pohle, Rt. 1, Box 210, on the Jack Tone Road, south of Harney Lane, at 11:20 a.m. Saturday.

The child, rushed to Mason hospital, passed away at 3 a.m. yesterday.

According to State Highway Patrolman John Kennedy, who investigated, the child was with three other children playing along the road, and had darted in front of the Pohle car. The driver was not held as the accident was termed unavoidable.

Gary James Herman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Herman of Rt. 1, Box 196, Lodi, was 3 ½ years of age. He was born in Lodi at the Mason hospital and passed away in the same hospital on Sunday morning, having sustained a fractured skull, a broken leg and internal injuries.

He was the brother of Lyle Marvin, June Sherlain and Gene Henry Herman and was the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Seibel of Lodi and of Mrs. Marie Herman of North Dakota. He was the nephew of Louis and John Seibel, both of Lodi; Jake Seibel of Richmond; Mrs. John Morison, Arizona; Mrs. Florence Schmidt of Lodi; Mrs. Lila Morison of Lodi; Mrs. Fred Seibel of Chino; William Herman of Stockton; John Herman of Wilton, North Dakota; Alex Herman, North Dakota and Chris Herman, South Dakota.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock in the chapel of the Lodi Funeral Home with Rev. George Loewen officiating. Interment will be made in Cherokee Memorial Park.
