Edward B. Cauthorn was the principal of Columbia High School for sixteen years. He held a B.S. in Engineering and a B.S. in Education from the University of Missouri. He taught mathematics at the University and was city engineer of Columbia from 1901 to 1910. He planned the first street paving work done in Columbia. He left Columbia in 1916 to accept the position of principal at the new Forest Avenue High School in Dallas, Texas. In 1938, he committed suicide in Dallas.
