News Comet, East Berlin, PA - 9 March 1951:

John Earl Shirley, 40, of 836 North West street, Carlisle, husband of Helen Walker Shirley, died early Tuesday morning at Carlisle hospital.

He was a machine tool grinder at the Frog and Switch company for many years, a member of the Friendship Fire company. He was also a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church and Sunday School.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Walker Shirley; three daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Kelly, Carlisle R.1; Donna Mae and Verna Darlene, and a son Robert LeVan, at home; a brother, Richard, York Springs R.D.; three sisters, Mrs. Alice Craig, Shippensburg R.D.; Mrs. Margaret Black, Carlisle, and Mrs. Ethel Suminez, Tokyo, Japan, and one grandchild.

Funeral services from the Lutz-Hoffman funeral home on Thursday at 21 p.m. with Rev. Simpson B. Daugherty officiating. Interment in Westport [sic] cemetery.
