VIRGINIA BEACH - Mary B. Smith, 93, died Oct. 2, 2001, at Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital in the presence of her children and grandchildren. She was born Feb. 2, 1908, in Tyner, N.C., and was a resident of the Tidewater area for 65 years. She resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Pauline and Bill Giles for the past six years.
She is survived by her devoted children, Mary and Al Waterman of Norfolk, Gilbert and Myrtle Smith of Virginia Beach, Pauline and Bill Giles of Virginia Beach, Barbara and Lee Hurst of Chesapeake, Helen and Bob Hillian of Virginia Beach, Cecilia and Ronnie Cason of Virginia Beach and Mary Louise Crawford of Virginia Beach. Grandma Smith will be missed by her 20 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert W. Smith; her father, George Boyce; her mother, Cora Boyce; her brother, Cecil Boyce; and sisters, Madeline Guffey and Clarissa Brillion. She is also survived by her sister, Josephine Smith of Virginia Beach.
Mrs. Smith loved having her family around and watching her grandchildren play. She loved her plants and flowers. She loved to watch birds. Mrs. Smith was a good woman, mother, and grandmother. She will be greatly missed.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, with the Rev. Jack Davis officiating. Interment will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
