British politician. Sir Henry Holland had been a senior civil servant in the Colonial office before becoming a Conservative politician. In 1879 he was MP for Midhurst and in 1888 he became secretary of state for the colonies. He later became Viscount Knutsford. In 1879 he was one of the few Conservative MP's to both oppose and vote against the government`s policy in Southern Africa. Holland was cremated at Golders Green on the 31st January, 1914 and his ashes were later removed.
