Foxhall Alexander Parker, Sr. (1788 – 23 November 1857) was an officer in the United States Navy.

Biography

Born in Westmoreland County, Virginia, Parker joined the Navy as a midshipman on January 1, 1808. During the War of 1812 he was captured at sea. He was commissioned lieutenant on March 9, 1813, commander on March 3, 1825 and captain on March 3, 1835[1].

In 1821, he served in Constitution, and assumed command of her in 1842. In 1851, as Commodore, he commanded the Home Squadron.

In 1814, he married Sarah Jay Bogardus (b. 1794), daughter of Robert Bogardus (1771-1841), and their children were Foxhall A. Parker, Jr. (1821-1879) and William Harwar Parker (1826-1896), who were also prominent naval officers.

Foxhall Alexander PARKER (Commodore), born 1788, at Rock Spring, Westmoreland Co., VA. At an early age he entered the USN,and rose to the rank of Commodore. He was placed in command of the navy yards at Boston, MA; in 1848-9 he was selected to go to Germany to advise the Government as to the construction of the navy, and upon his return he was put in command of the Home Squadron; married 1814, Sarah Jay BOGARDUS, daughter of General Robert BOGARDUS, of NY, NY.

Captain Foxhall Alexander Parker, Senior | 15 July 1842 - 16 February 1843

Previously served as the ship's First Lieutenant under Commodore Jacob Jones; designated for part of the time as "Flag Captain" of the Mediterranean Squadron.

Record show he is buried at St Stephen´s Episcopal Church, Penn.

He was originally interred at Ronaldson's Cemetery at the time of his death in 1857. The cemetery was closed and the remains were removed to the following cemetery where the remains of his wife are also interred.
