Abram and Jane Ballantyne were both born in Scotland, Abram in 1820 and Jane on July 11, 1822. Jane was the daughter of John and Jennet Turnbull Ballantyne. The Ballantyne family arrived in America in 1841, and Abram arrived about the same time. Abram and Jane were married in Nauvoo, Hancock County, Illinois on April 4, 1843. Jane died March 25, 1852 in Burnet County, buried in the Morman cemetery there.
The Wight group arrived in Bandera March 1, 1854, and Abram and his three children remained in Bandera after the colony disbanded in 1858. When Abram died the latter part of 1859 in Bandera, William Ballantyne was appointed guardian for their minor children, Jennet, Jenemie and Mormona.
Jennet married George W. Lewis in Bandera on November 12, 1863, and died in Bandera March 5, 1912. Jenemie married Richard E. Bird in Bandera on December 30, 1865, and moved in 1880 to Kansas. Mormona (Morgan) remained single, died June 13, 1918, and was buried on the old Ballantyne ranch.
