Born in Lead, South Dakota on January 29, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Winfield Davis and Bertha Trenkle Smith.
Her early years were spent in Rockingham County, NC, where she graduated from Wentworth High School in 1939. She went on to graduate from the University of NC, Chapel Hill in 1944 with a degree in Sociology, and worked in the University Alumni Office.
In 1945, she married Edward L. Teague, Jr. As wife of a football coach and athletic director, she was involved in athletic programs at Guilford College, the University of Maryland, the University of North Carolina, and finally at The Citadel in Charleston, SC where she spent 29 years.
While in Charleston, she attended numerous athletic events, was active in the Citadel faculty wives, helped with blood drives at The Citadel, volunteered in the soup kitchen at Grace Episcopal Church, and was active in various other church activities. She also enjoyed playing bridge and sewing. Her last 15 years were spent at Greenville Glen Assisted Living.
She is survived by two daughters, Joanne Huntington, and husband Mark of Greenville, and Peggy Howell, and husband Lee Block of San Francisco, CA; three grandsons, Lee and Ryan Huntington of Greenville, and Jay Howell of California; a granddaughter, Kristen Brown; two great-granddaughters, Simone Capelle and Jada Howell of California; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her husband of 42 years, Edward L. Teague, Jr., and brothers, Winfield and Leonard Smith.
A graveside service will be held, February 10, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at the Beaufort National Cemetery.
