David was a handsome man. With the most beautiful blue eyes, according to his niece Verena, just like his brothers Carl and Walt she said. She also said that when they were kids they loved to have D.K. and Hedwig come. D.K. was a lot of fun to have around and they came often to visit. He and Carl would play horseshoes. She said D.K. would wrestle and throw the kids around, play and dance with the them.

David and Hedwig were married around 1906. They lived in North Dakota.
In 1910 they lived on the military homestead at Fort Sisseton South Dakota.
Some time around 1912 they lived in Big Beaver, Canada and ranched with Walter his brother.
In 1920 they lived in Farmington, Grant, South Dakota.
In 1930 they lived in Farmington, Grant, South Dakotha.
They moved to Missoula, Montana some time before 1936 to work as things were in hard times in the Dakotas.
They had 7 children:
