Charles O. Gunderson 98, a pioneer resident of the Blackduck area, died at the Bemidji hospital November 18, 1970. Born in Chippewa County, Minn., he homesteaded in Hornet Township in 1900 and moved to Cormant Township, known as the Inez Community, in 1906. He was married to Lillian Armstrong Feb. 28, 1910 at Duluth. They lived in Cormant where they raised six children. Charles operated a store and was the Inez postmaster in the early years, and later operated a saw mill, but farming was his primary occupation. Charles was a member of the Cormant town board for many years.

In 1957 they moved to Blackduck. Around 1964 they moved to the North Haven Nursing Home in Northome where they lived for six years. In February 1970 the Gundersons celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at the Zion Lutheran Church in Blackduck. In May 1970, they moved to the Northern Pines Nursing Home in Blackduck.

Surviving besides his widow, are four sons, Marvin, Howard and Robert of Blackduck, and Lowell of Tigard, Ore.; two daughters, Mrs. Rudy Locken (Mildred) of Saum and Mrs. Ray Town (Lorayne) of Portland, Ore.; 16 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a brother, Eddie of Enderlin, N.D.; two sisters, Mrs. Ben Trangsrud (Clara) of Enderlin and Mrs. Minnie Hitchcock of Lisbon, N.D.

Preceding him in death were brothers, George and John Alfred; three sisters, Mrs. Severin Hanson (Elida), Mrs. Ole Gunderson (Emma) and Mrs. Nels Helland (Ida).

Funeral services for Charles were conducted at the Zion Lutheran Church in Blackduck on November 21, 1970, the Rev. J.R. Peterson officiated. Burial was at Lakeview Cemetery in Blackduck. Pallbearers were Leo Thielman, Sidney Sand, Loren Lindquist, Albert Nesset, Bert Lindquist and Lloyd Wingren.
